What is the difference between wood and composite sticks?
Wood sticks are normally made of Mulberry and then reinforced with materials such as Carbon, Kevlar, Fiberglass and Dyneema. The big advantage of wood sticks is that first touch control and feel on the ball are generally much better than composites.
At the Athens Olympics, a lot of skillful Spanish and German players used wood sticks.

Composite sticks are made of a mixture of Carbon, Kevlar and Fiberglass. They are made in moulds, so that every stick will have the same shape, weight and balance. This means that if you were to buy a Grays GX5000 in 36.5" Medium and you wanted the same stick again in a years' time, it would be exactly the same as your old stick.
Composites are also extremely stiff, which gives excellent hitting power. It is for this reason that many people buy composite sticks. The drawback is that ball control and first touch are normally not as good compared to a wood stick.
What is the difference between wood and composite sticks?
What stick length do I need?
The standard adult length is 36.5", with longer lengths of 37.5" and 38" also available. Players of about 5' 2" (155cm) height and taller normally use 36.5" sticks.
Longer sticks are normally only used by players of about 6' (180cm) or taller. However it has been known for shorter players to use 37.5" or 38" sticks because they want the extra reach.

The traditional way to find out the correct stick length was to hold the stick up against the body and the stick should reach the hip bone. However, the more modern way to establish the correct size is to hold the stick with both hands at the top of the stick (as if to hit the ball). If you are too crouched over the stick is too short, if you are too upright it is too long.
Are composite sticks unbreakable? Are composite sticks unbreakable?
No stick, whether composite or wood is unbreakable. If a stick breaks within six weeks of purchase, it will usually be replaced without quibble.
How long will my stuff take to arrive?
Any orders placed before 12:00 GMT will be shipped the same day (Monday to Friday) as long as the order is in stock.
If the items you have ordered are out of stock, you will be informed within 48 hours and given the option of waiting for the stock to come in or cancelling your order.
When we ship sticks, we offer two services: International Scheduled and International Datapost. The Scheduled service takes 3-5 working days for most US destinations and 5-10 days to the rest of the world. The Datapost service is an express service which delivers in 2-3 working days in North America and 3-5 days to the rest of the world.
For items such as shoes, clothing and accessories we use an International Signed For service for less expensive items and International Swiftair for more valuable items. Orders sent using either of these two services will take 10-14 days to arrive.
If you order shoes, clothing or accessories and need your stuff urgently, write in the shipping details box (located at the checkout) that you would like an express service.
What if I want to return something?

At Field Hockey World, we want you to be happy with your purchase. However we recognise that occasionally you may want to return an item. Our "No Quibbles" guarantee means that if for any reason you are unhappy with your purchase, you can return it to us in its' original condition, within 30 days and we will issue a full refund excluding postage charges.
You can always return items if they are defective. Wrap the parcel securely, enclosing a note detailing the fault and send to:

Field Hockey World, Unit 16C Deanfield Mills, Asquith Avenue, Morley, Leeds, LS27 9QS, UK

For your protection we recommend that you use a delivery service where your parcel can be traced if it goes missing.. If you are returning a defective item or we have sent you something by mistake, we will refund the postage costs incurred by you in sending the goods back to us.

In order to maintain our high customer service standards, should you consider any item to be faulty we may require it to be inspected by the manufacturer before any further action can be taken. Hockey is a rough sport, and wear and tear to sticks in particular is normal. We recommend regular maintenance of your stick, using stick tape and a stick fix, as this will dramatically extend the life of your stick.

This returns policy does not affect your statutory rights.

If you decide to return an item to us, please write on the customs note (available at your Post Office) 'Mail order purchase returned'.
Will I have to pay any tax?

For orders of $200.00 or less, there will normally be no import tax to pay for United States orders. However for orders over $200.00 you may have to pay some import duty. The amount will depend on the type of goods you have ordered, the value and where you live.
If in doubt, check with your Customs authority.
